Greenhouse Manager
The Role
The Greenhouse Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our new Greenhouse and Container Farm. This includes managing plant production, ensuring optimal growing conditions, supervising staff, maintaining equipment, and meeting production goals. The role requires expertise in horticulture, efficient resource management, and strong leadership skills.
You will grow food, develop new programs and change lives. The GM reports directly to the Executive Director but will be required to operate and make decisions independently.
Prior experience in greenhouse production is necessary and knowledge or excitement to learn hydroponics/vertical farming is nice to have. This is an opportunity for an enthusiastic, self-motivated and organized individual to develop the new position and program as it relates to BoysGrow’s bigger vision.
The Job
This position is new and exciting and will focus on 3 primary lanes
- Greenhouse and Container Farm: The GM will be responsible for overseeing all production in 3 phases; our newly acquired Container Farm {freightfarms.com}, Greenhouse Production, Field Production for Salad kits and other items.
- Salad 4 Success: is a new initiative to employ underemployed young adults in 16 month paid internships on the farm. The 2-4 interns will learn valuable life and vocational skills while working on the farm. With help from BoysGrow staff the GM will manage and steer the pilot program.
- The Business: Taking existing efforts and create a successful new business venture hyper focused on 12 month salad production.
Skills
The Greenhouse and Container Farm
- In charge of daily seeding, watering, harvesting.
- Familiar with automated farming equipment and control systems as it relates to Hydroponic and Greenhouse production.
- Develop a plan, with awareness of crop rotation, maximizing yields, inter-planting, disease/pest resistance.
- Supervise and enforce food safety procedures (GAP & GMP)
- This position will require off hour calls during times of emergency.
Salad for Success Facilitator
- Lead/Motivate/Manage groups of young adults in horticulture practices.
- Balance education opportunities and production.
- Facilitate quarterly reviews with interns.
- Be a great verbal ambassador for the program.
The Business
- Track expenses, production yields, and performance metrics.
- Create new relationships with local retailers/restaurants/grocery stores.
- Prepare and manage budgets for greenhouse operations
Who We Are Looking For

- Farmer: Has strong experience in farming, processes of growing vegetables and fruits, including planting, transplanting, watering, weeding, and organic regenerative agriculture practices. With 80% of this done in a Greenhouse and Container Farm.
- Mentor: Strong ability to lead and work in small teams.
- Collaborative: Enjoys working as a team and sees supporting team members as a positive part of their role. Ability to communicate clearly and engage others in the process
- Self-Starter: Ability to work independently and make decisions.
- Proactive Problem Solver: Ability to think critically and adapt in a flexible environment; ability to anticipate needs, prioritize, and take appropriate actions

- Working knowledge or willingness to learn of Google Sheets and or Excel.
